Job description :
Our aim with the announced position is to strengthen our research and teaching base in fish physiology, with particular attention given to salmon physiology. The main rationale being that physiology is the discipline that per definition seeks integrative understanding of the body as a system down to the molecular level. Physiological understanding is therefore key to achieving causal insight about the genotype-phenotype relation and how the environment in the wide sense affects this relation.
Several outstanding challenges in Norwegian aquaculture have to be tackled through the application of such insight. These challenges are for example related to making the salmon physiologically (immunologically and otherwise) more robust, adapting the salmon to new and sustainable food ingredients, and establishing in general a pre-emptive and versatile knowledge base providing comprehensive explanatory and predictive capability.
We therefore expect the successful candidate to take advantage of the integrative capacity of physiology to develop a strong and methodologically modern research programme that is capable of attracting basic research funding as well as applied research funding.
