Applications are invited for a position as professor with special responsibilities in Marine Coastal Fish Habitats and Management.
The professorship is affiliated with the National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua), Section for Ecosystem based Marine Management in Copenhagen.
The Section has a focus on interdisciplinary research improving our understanding of marine ecosystems and how they are managed. In this context, the professorship will serve to strengthen the coupling between fish biology, fish ecology, habitats and systems management. Furthermore, the professorship will serve to develop research needed for advisory tasks in relation to coastal fish management and environmental directives, such as the Water Framework Directive, NATURA2000 and Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).
Responsibilities and tasks
The primary research focus of the professorship is: Coastal fish habitats and integrated management under multiple changing pressures. The successful candidate is expected to ambitiously contribute in shaping and directing the research area as appropriate for a leading technical university. Duties of the professor include (1) participation in teaching at the bachelor, master and PhD levels, (2) providing advice on coastal fish management and on anthropogenic impacts on coastal systems, (3) development of concepts and techniques for habitat restoration and environmental improvement in marine coastal ecosystems, (4) development of tools for integrated management and (5) enhancement of international research cooperation within marine habitats and coastal systems management.
The professor will cooperate closely with other research groups in the Section for Ecosystem Based Marine Management as well as in DTU Aqua as a whole. Cooperation with research groups in DTU Compute, DTU Environment and DTU Civil Engineering is also expected.
A position as professor with special responsibilities is held for a limited time period and involves all the usual duties associated with a full professorship, as well as fixed-term specific duties which will vary according to the research program.
The position is intended for a candidate with a strong profile in field work in coastal systems and research underpinning integrated systems management. The candidate should also have an outstanding track record in internationally acknowledged research, including well-documented international recognition within their research field. Employment implies original research at the highest international level.
In order to secure the desired strengthening of the coupling between ecology and management, the applicant is expected to have considerable documented interdisciplinary knowledge. Knowledge and experience of integrated coastal zone management or research related to national implementation of EU directives will be an advantage.
In the assessment of the candidate, consideration will be given to
