Scientific Project Manager Position at PANGAEA, MARUM, University Bremen (Germany)

PANGAEA data publisher for earth and environmental sciences ( is a joint facility of MARUM ( at University Bremen and of the AWI (, Bremerhaven. It is responsible for data integration in several national, European and international research projects. The position is initially tied to a large national data infrastructure project which aims at facilitating data sharing and stimulating data intensive science in the fields of biological and environmental research.

The successful candidate will be responsible for scientific project management tasks, including (1) presenting and publishing scientific results of the project and PANGAEA at national and international conferences, workshops and journals and consulting with other research projects thematically related to align with (2) developing the renewal proposal for subsequent funding periods of the project under the coordination of PANGAEA including the definition of goals, tasks and deliverables and identifying and exploring further funding opportunities (3) contribution to the creation of legal documents, preparation of reports and organization of scientific conferences and meetings.

Other responsibilities of the appointee will include tasks related to the management and archiving of environmental and biological research data in particular (1) contributing bioscientific expertise to strengthen PANGAEA's academic profile (2) helping scientists to organize and submit data to PANGAEA, (3) conducting quality control on metadata according to international standards, (4) archiving data in PANGAEA.

We seek candidates with:
- Experience with acquisition and management of funds from national and international funding agencies.
- Knowledge in the execution and presentation of third-party funded projects.
- Clear interest in representing scientific interests and projects, rather than pursuing a research career.
- A background in earth- and environmental sciences, e.g. PhD in biology, geology or similar fields.
- Double competence in earth- and environmental sciences and working knowledge in data bases is desirable.
- Fluent English (CEF B2-C1, written and spoken).

The position is a fixed-term contract at University Bremen, starting mid February 2014, and ending on May 31st 2015. Salary and benefits are linked to the German employee scale EG 13 TV-L.
