The School of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a Research Associate - Post doc m/f with a strong background in marine biogeochemical or ecosystem modelling. The position is located in the research group "Advancement of Coupled Climate Ocean Ecosystem Models" at the Institute for Hydrobiology and Fisheries Science, Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability. The research focus in this group is both on environmental (climate) influence on phytoplankton dynamics and the effects of phytoplankton dynamics on the environment. The successful candidate is expected to have a keen interest in interactions between different phytoplankton species (or groups), between phyto and zooplankton, the role of phytoplankton in biogeochemical cycles or the effects of phytoplankton on ocean physics.
The applicant will develop and apply 1D to 3D coupled ocean-ecosystem models and analyze the model results in close cooperation with researchers from the KlimaCampus, in particular the Institute for Hydrobiology and Fisheries Science, the Institute for Oceanography and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. Specific tasks also include dissemination of model results, participation in teaching and supervision of students.
Academic degree plus doctoral degree in biological oceanography or geosciences is required. The post-doc must have profound knowledge in:
• marine biogeochemical or ecosystem modeling
• programming language (Fortran)
• visualization programmes (e.g. Ferret)
and the ability to conduct research independently. In addition, the willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment and strong oral and written communication skills in English are expected.
Payment is according to salary group E 13 TV-L. The position is offered for 3 years with a possibility for an extension to a maximum of 5 years (see also § 2 of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Law Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz)). The position calls for 39 hours per week.
